Throughout June Oakville are taking part in Pedigree Dentastix dental care month and national micro chipping month, for more details please read on or call the practice for further information or to book an appointment.
Dental care is an important part of your pets health, regular checks can help prevent the excessive build up of tartar and other conditions such as gingivitis and gum disease. Gum disease is the most common disease in adult dogs, it begins when bacteria stick to the surface of your dogs teeth and begin to form a sticky layer of dental plaque, if this isn’t removed it hardens to form tartar in a matter of days! The bacteria within plaque and tartar attack the gums and cause inflammation of the gum tissue, this can in turn damage the gum tissue and eventually other structures which support the teeth, such as ligaments and bones and this can lead to tooth loss.
Here at Oakville throughout the month of June you can book a free dental appointment for your dog and receive a free sample of Pedigree Dentastix, during the consultation the nurse will check your dogs teeth and gums and discuss the importance of good oral hygiene, any questions you may have will also be answered.
As well as dental care month, we are also participating in national microchipping month.
Every day pets across the country go missing, we understand that this can be an upsetting time for you as a pet owner. With the use of a scanner, if your pet has been chipped, we will be able to reunite you easily. Micro-chips are inserted into the scruff at the back of the neck using an implanter, the chips are the about the size of a grain of rice and once inserted will stay in place. If your pet is found and taken to a veterinary practice or rescue centre they will be scanned to check for a chip and if one is in place the national database will be contacted to retrieve your details so you and your pet can be reunited quickly. For a one off fee of £15 your pet will be microchipped for life!
